Wear and Tear Explained

Lease vehicles should be returned in good condition, allowing for Normal Wear and Tear (refer to your Lease Contract). Anything outside of Normal Wear and Tear may result in Excess Wear and Tear charges.

Glass

  • Normal Wear
    No glass damage
  • Excess Wear
    All glass damage is chargeable (even small cracks and chips can compromise safety)

Lenses

  • Normal Wear
    Scratches and scuffs
  • Excess Wear
    Cracked or broken

Exterior Body Panel

  • Normal Wear
    Up to three dents per panel that break the paint and are within
    88.9 mm × 54 mm (3 1/2” × 2 1/8”)
  • Excess Wear
    Four or more dents per panel (regardless of size) or any that are larger than 88.9 mm × 54 mm (3 1/2” × 2 1/8”)

Tires

  • Normal Wear
    Tread depth of 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) or greater in all grooves except the outer grooves
  • Excess Wear
    Tread depth less than 3.2 mm (1/8 inch), except the outer grooves

Wheels

  • Normal Wear
    Minor scuffs or nicks to wheels, wheel covers, or trim rings, or that do not affect the safety of the tire
  • Excess Wear
    Mismatched, bent, cracked, or broken wheels, wheel covers or trim rings

  • Normal Wear
    Burn holes 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) or less
  • Excess Wear
    Burn holes greater than 3.2 mm (1/8 inch)

Interior Cuts and Tears

  • Normal Wear
    Cuts and tears that are 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) or less
  • Excess Wear
    Cuts and tears greater than 12.7 mm (1/2 inch)

Interior Permanent Stains

  • Normal Wear
    Stains that are 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) or less or that can be removed
  • Excess Wear
    Stains greater than 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) that cannot be removed

You will be responsible for any chargeable Excess Wear and Tear remaining at vehicle return. Be sure to consult your Lincoln Dealer for any needs or questions you might have.

Some damage considered as Excess Wear and Tear may be covered by your insurance. Be sure to allow sufficient time for your claims to be processed/repairs completed before returning the vehicle.

You may be charged for unaddressed Excess Wear and Tear when the vehicle is returned.

Excess Kilometres

If the kilometres on your lease vehicle exceeds that allowed under your Red Carpet Lease Contract, you will be responsible for the overage. Please refer to your Contract for kilometres allowed and excess kilometre charges.
